Amazing place to live. Staff are amazing no matter the time. Repairs are done quickly and other renters seem great

As the name suggests, it is a 'central place' with an amazing view! As a student, I feel this accomodation great because you get a wonderful experience of student life and every place in Sheffield is accessible for this place. You'll get the best assistance from the team at reception! I don't need to take care of my bills. Rent includes everything! Lockdown would be boring without the 'Central Place'. And guess what! Tesco is just downstairs😍 PS: I suggest you to take up a room facing the basketball court. You'll love it :)

I'll start off by saying the single star in this review goes to the maintenance staff. Although the apartment's issues are persistent, the maintenance staff Freddy and Simon are decent guys. That said, Apartment 1, Mary Page House is a hell hole. Since we moved into our two bedroom flat on September 17th it has been issue after issue. I am currently writing this review in a freezing room after the heating system has been "fixed" no less than 3 times, once by an external contractor. The customer service advisors are unhelpful almost to the point of antagonistic. The day we moved in the carpets were extremely smelly and visibly dirty as was the linoleum in the kitchen and bathroom, both of which are literally coming off the ground. Cupboards and wardrobes were coming off the hinges. The smoke alarm was constantly beeping, the kitchen drain was regurgitating water (when we'd never even used it!) and giving off horrible sewer smell. Heating in my bedroom and the living room were nil. There were holes in the walls in three rooms. It wasn't till two days later when most of these issues began to be cleared up. We were told the carpets would be changed in two weeks. I have the photos, videos and their timestamps to prove each statement. By the 20th of September our water was yellow-brown. I took samples to show Connor who said initially that the water looked fine and then later was "sure it's still drinkable". Selina mentioned some pipe cleaning to which I responded that we had been told nothing of. It took about 20 minutes of running every tap in the apartment to get the water clear again. On Saturday September 30th, a 20kg glass shower guard fell on my sister in the bathroom while she showered, slamming her arm. When we mentioned this to Selina on the next Monday her first response was "So is it completely smashed now?". I was stunned. We reiterated all our issues to many of the maintenance staff there. A common theme was "the previous renters..." which is hogwash because we did not pay £11,118 in full to the previous renters but to Derwent Students accommodations now rebranded as Student Roost. They did some repair work that day and had the carpets steam-washed. The carpets smelled good for the two days it took the lemon soap to dry. Then it went back to smelling and looking filthy. The drain issues: water regurgitation, the sewer smell and, in the middle of October, complete blockage were thought to be resolved, but as it persisted it was suggested the dishwasher was somehow at fault. We were told we'd get a new one. It's been a month today. Perhaps the dishwasher will come in January? The refurbishments, including the carpets and linoleum we were told would be changed two weeks after our arrival, were moved to November and now again to January next year. To say this is frustrating is an understatement. Tonight we've been offered a portable heater from the office to use until Monday. A portable heater for a two bedroom apartment in 3-degree weather. We wanted a full refund the day we moved in and argued for it but were told it was not possible. We later asked for a partial refund for the period we've had issues (not ended) which is going through a bureaucratic process we are told. I should add that we were asked to move into a flat to share with other people or two single bedroom apartments, but we are insistent to get what we paid for, and I don't think wrongfully so. So don't do it. You can get better elsewhere for that price and less hassle. I've attached a picture of an email sent asking for people with "a positive experience" of the place to write testimonials for a free £10 amazon voucher. Now, I'm not saying that the positive reviews here have been paid for with £10 vouchers. I do know though, that amazon has vouchers in multiple denominations. I'm tired and frustrated and have been putting off giving this review as I'd hoped things would improve. Frozen fingers on a night like this have been fuel enough. Rent at your own peril.

I have been living in Central Place for one year. A week ago, I reported a water drainage issue in my shower area, but it still hasn't been fixed. The maintenance team is very poor at responding to such issues.

My name is Ayomide Ayodele, I recently moved into my student accommodation on the 5th of this month, and I’ve been thoroughly impressed with the experience so far. The service here has been outstanding responsive and always willing to help whenever needed. One of the highlights for me is the free WiFi, which has been reliable and fast, making studying and staying connected a breeze. The heater in my apartment works perfectly, which is such a relief given the cold temperatures here. It’s definitely a major plus for comfort. The apartment itself is very conducive for studying and relaxing, with plenty of space and a cozy atmosphere. Overall, I’ve really enjoyed my stay here so far, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision.
