I really enjoy The Retreat East and all that they have to offer! From the luxury amenities, spacious and updated apartments, and the kind staff, it really is an amazing place to live. I also love how they show their residents care and appreciation! My favorite part is how they do events from free food, bouquet making, free professional headshots, and more each week. It makes the experience incredible!

Overall, it was not a friendly experience. The management office provided very poor support. Make sure you know exactly who you are renting from and understand the rules regarding friends and pets before signing a contract, as there is absolutely no flexibility. The office is difficult to reach, and it is impossible to talk to or meet the manager. They show zero flexibility toward tenants, prioritizing financial goals over kindness and consideration.

Horrible behind the scenes. Office has no sympathy or anything. I am currently trying to get out of my lease due to my safety being at risk and they have no regard to my police report being filed and even went through courts. My future lease has yet to begin and they’re stating I cannot get out of it. They’re stating that domestic violence victims aren’t protected under the law because they are private housing. A shame to Hannah, to Zane and to others in the office ! Update: you guys have not ensured timely communication, you guys tell me that you won’t speak on this matter anymore and it’ll be the legal counsel to then hit me up. I emailed you guys twice and no response since 9 AM today. It’s impossible to speak to Hannah by the way everything is emaiL BUT that’s after you call the office to say “when will I get a response”. You guys say “while also stating compliant” it is 4 girls in this apartment and you’re putting everyone at risk because you do not want to cancel / terminate 1 lease that starts in August….. it’s a shame really. If you think about signing just look for somewhere that has a termination agreement. They don’t care about safety, they don’t care about what’s happened, they don’t even care that I’ve went through the issue, they state VAWA is “typicall” government funded residential issues, but isn’t domestic violence everywhere? It’s a shame really. The communication isn’t even half of the issues with this complex but I’ll stay on topic. I see other reviews have the other issues pointed out.

I’ve had an extremely frustrating experience with The Retreat East. Communication is basically nonexistent — I’ve made multiple calls during their listed business hours and no one answers or follows up. On top of that, they’ve been completely unhelpful when it comes to returning my security deposit. It feels like they’re intentionally dragging things out or just ignoring the issue altogether. What makes it worse is that many of the amenities they advertise — and that residents are paying for — either don’t work or are poorly maintained. You’re not getting what you’re promised, which is unacceptable for the price. Overall, the management team comes across as disorganized and indifferent. It honestly feels like they don’t care about their residents at all. I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere if you want a place that actually values communication, accountability, and basic service.

The Retreat East does not even deserve 1 star. I agree with Johnny regarding lack of cleanliness. Upon my son's moving in, I had to buy cleaning supplies and clean the entire downstairs living and kitchen areas. The floors, baseboards and air filter grates were dirty. The couch was disgusting. The guys requested a new couch but never received one. There were paint drops on the floors, the refrigerator had dents in it, the garbage disposal didn't work, etc. Maintenance was slow to respond, if at all. Aside from that, my son did not renew his lease and moved out on 7/31. We received a final statement of charges owed but it was incorrect. He accidentally put the wrong unit number on the form, therefore, rather than returning his $100 security deposit, they were charging him $75 for not turning in keys. He actually turned in his keys and that was confirmed and signed off on using another form. We called the office immediately to inform them that there was a typographical error on the form and provided the correct information. In fact, we called several times and my son went to the office personally after we were not receiving a response confirming the correction. After several phone calls, I was eventually told that the manager "Hannah" will not speak to tenants over the phone and that I must send an email. I then wrote a very respectful email as follows: 8/25/2025 Hannah, I am writing to formally request resolution of an error related to my son's (removing his name for privacy) move-out form. I have called your office five times without receiving a direct response, and the issue remains unresolved. He mistakenly listed the wrong unit number on his move-out form. He lived in Unit C (not Unit B, which was his roommate's unit). Despite this clerical error, my son turned in both his room and mailbox keys, as the form itself indicates. Nonetheless, he was informed that $75 will be deducted from his $100 security deposit. Here is a summary of my attempts to resolve this matter: First and second calls: I was told the issue would be relayed to you, and later that my son's account showed a $0 balance. I requested confirmation from you directly but did not receive it. Third call: I spoke with Dillon, who assured me he would confirm with you, but no resolution followed. Letter received: My son was notified that $75 was still being deducted from his security deposit. In-person visit: My son spoke with Dane, who told him that a damage dispute form should have been submitted, but at this point the deadline has passed. This is not a damage dispute—it is an administrative error. Most recent call: I was told you do not speak with people by phone. Had I been informed of this earlier, I would have addressed the matter differently. This is a simple error regarding a unit number, not a question of damages. Given that my son fulfilled all obligations, including returning his keys, he should receive his full $100 security deposit. I respectfully request immediate confirmation in writing that this correction will be made. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. Regards, Rachel Molina There have been numerous follow up emails and so much more that I don't have character space to include in this post. I have been told the check is "being cut" but to date - 10/6/25 still have not received the check. Additional emails were sent on 10/3 and 10/6 - no response. If the manager would have spoken to me or my son, this issue could have been resolved promptly and efficiently. A manager who refuses to speak to his or her customers (in this case tenants) would never become successful in the corporate world. Managers should be professionally trained to handle confrontation, face-to-face communication and speaking with people directly. Even after all of the detailed emails, they still have not resolved the problem. There is a huge miss here! Perhaps someone higher up at Landmark Properties will see this post and take the appropriate action to ensure that my son's security deposit is returned to him as it should be.
