Review and ratings
Chloe Uzoukwu
The staff in the building are genuinely lovely — always polite, professional, and helpful. The accommodation itself is satisfactory and generally meets expectations. However, the WiFi situation is entirely unacceptable. There have been consistent outages on a near weekly basis, often involving complete loss of connection across multiple devices. This is not just occasional slowness — it is total service failure. For anyone who works or studies from home, this is a serious problem. Despite ongoing “maintenance,” the issues persist. Residents are frequently left without connection, sometimes while others in the building still have service, which only adds to the frustration. For those of us who rely on stable internet for professional and academic commitments, this has caused significant disruption. The building has many positives, but until the WiFi is made consistently reliable, this remains a major and unacceptable drawback.

I’ve been living here for a few months now, and there is a lot to love about this place. However, there is one major recurring issue that makes student life a bit of a struggle. First off, the management and onsite staff are incredible. They are genuinely friendly, remember your name, and always go out of their way to help with maintenance requests or parcel collections. The common areas are kept clean, and there’s a really welcoming vibe throughout the building. If I were rating based on the people alone, it would be a 5-star review without question. The biggest downside and it’s a significant one is the internet reliability. The Wi-Fi seems to crash at least once every single week. As a student, this is more than just an inconvenience; it’s a massive stressor. Whether I’m in the middle of a lecture, trying to submit an assignment, or just wanting to stream a movie on the weekend, the connection is constantly dropping out. For the price of the rent, you’d expect a stable connection that can handle basic academic needs. I really want to give this place a perfect score because the staff makes it feel like home, but the weekly internet outages are hard to ignore. If they can modernize the network and provide a stable connection, this would easily be the best student accommodation in the city.

I was a resident at The Helix and, based on my experience, I would not recommend it. The main issue was a prolonged lack of hot water in my room. The shower did not produce hot water suitable for normal use. I raised this through the maintenance system, spoke to staff in person, and had a call with management. While staff attended and attempted fixes, the issue was never resolved in my room. At one point I was told to use alternative shower facilities on a lower floor, which highlights that the problem was ongoing. I also had a fridge that was not maintaining a safe temperature; this was eventually replaced, but only after a period of inconvenience. More concerning has been the handling of my formal complaint. I provided the information requested and followed up, but communication has been slow and there have been significant delays in receiving a final response. The overall standard of maintenance follow-through and complaint handling did not meet expectations. If you’re considering staying here, I would strongly suggest checking how maintenance issues are handled and how quickly they are resolved.

Noisy rooms! AVOID AT ALL COSTS. The noise level in the video is with windows fully closed. This has been one of the worst accommodation experiences of my life. I was put in a room directly facing the railway(half of the rooms are), and I literally couldn’t sleep for days — I was getting maybe 2 hours of sleep a night. It pushed me into illness and a complete mental breakdown. When I reached out to Paula from the management team, I was told there would be NO refund, unless I found a replacement tenant or changed rooms. Seriously? My tenancy is only 4 weeks — how on earth am I supposed to magically find a new tenant in that time? Fine, I changed rooms. But guess what? Firstly on 21st Nov Friday 4pm, I was refused by two male receptionists and I told them LondonNest has arranged my change of room, but they refused to call LondonNest to confirm my room change request, so another night of suffering. Then In the new room soon as you open the window, the noise is unbearable, and even with it closed there’s constant traffic right outside. After everything I had already gone through, this was the last thing I needed. I ended up moving out 3 weeks early because I simply could not take it anymore. Yes, I booked for a month and left after ONE week — and I still had to pay all the rent and moving costs myself. If you value your health, your sleep, or just basic human decency, do not stay here. I hope my experience saves someone else from this ridiculous and exhausting mess.

Good room size. I have been here for 2 years now and have really enjoyed my stay. Omar, Calin, Abdou and Hibba are really nice and always there to help. I recommend students this building.

Your property contract is for a fixed length of time ‚Äì so your room is yours during that period. That means that you don‚have the hassle of moving your belongings out during the Christmas or Easter vacations, and you can choose to stay in your property over these holidays if you want. It‚Äôs usually possible to book additional accommodation over the summer period if you want to stay then too. But we advise booking early to ensure rooms are available.
