Madera Apartments was a good first student living apartment for me. Maintenance responds quickly, they do a great job, go out of their way, and they are really nice. The complex is well kept and clean majority of the time. The front office are quick to respond and are helpful. They also did a good job with roommate matching. The only downsides are: Visitor parking is not free, the shuttle is not the roadrunner and it only runs from 8 am to 6 pm. I wish I was informed of this when touring because I am a double major engineering student, and I stay at campus late working on projects, so I end up walking home at night or get a ride from a friend. Visitor parking is a little annoying because my family and friends do not want to come visit me often because they don’t want to pay. It’s not much but it adds up, and (keep in mind) my friends and I are broke college students. They also get anxious about their parking time expiring. For the apartment itself, I wish there is a pantry in the kitchen or more storage area. I meal prep and eat at home mostly and there’s not a lot of space for both my roommate and I, so I kept dry stuff in my bedroom closet. The unit I moved into was clean, nice, and I like how they furnished/decorated it. I did notice some bugs when first moving in. I put in a request and they were really fast and sprayed down the unit and I didn’t have any bug issue for the rest of my lease term. The people upstairs are loud but I ended up buying a white noise machine to sleep at night and that helped a lot. The parking here is really good. I never have an issue finding parking and I’m always able to park behind my unit within my window view. I love the shuttle driver, I’m going to miss him the most. He has a great attitude and on days when I didnt do well on an exam he’d make me laugh with awesome stories and jokes. There’s times when I missed the shuttle by just a couple seconds and I’d run and he would stop to let me on still. He is awesome and made my time here feel less lonely and I felt I’m going to be just fine. The complex hosts cool events and I had no idea they did that, so it was a nice surprise. It was a fun way of meeting other students and so nice to have a free meal too. I’m thankful for the events because I made new friends, and if I needed help such as a ride or other resources, I had friends here. All in all, I enjoyed my time here at Madera and thankful for the kind people I met.

Don’t move into these apartments under any circumstances. Trust me, save your money and go somewhere nice. The bus to campus is broken half the time and somehow NEVER has air conditioning. You will be sweating on that tiny bus. Madera is a nice starting apartment but is nowhere near the price value. For starters the staff is incredibly rude and will act like you’re an inconvenience for asking for help or any questions in general. The apartment itself was badly damaged when my roommates and I moved in. The dish washer was broken, the trashcan had been used and had smelled, the whole apartment was water damaged, the dryer didn’t work properly, the balcony door didn’t close all the way, the boarding on the floor and the bar were broken, the bar lights didn’t work, the doors to two of my roommates bedrooms didn’t close all the way/were scraping the door frame, paint chips were left all over the floor when we moved in as well the carpets were dirty, bugs were a prevalent problem even though pest control came regularly and the power in ALL the apartments would shut off randomly. I honestly would just recommend saving your money and living on campus or at a nicer place. Somewhere with a better lease too. While the amenities are super nice, I wouldn’t recommend overall.

I honestly regret moving into Madera Apartments. The management here is unbelievably rude, and the manager always seems angry or irritated anytime residents bring up concerns. Instead of helping, they make you feel like you’re a problem for asking basic questions. What makes it worse is that they know a lot of their residents are college students, and it honestly feels like they take advantage of that. They charge for parking, add fees for everything possible, and seem more focused on squeezing money out of residents than actually providing a good place to live. They are so eager to get money that they’ll do whatever they can to add another charge to your account. The “gated community” is another joke. The gates are constantly broken or left open, so there’s basically no added security at all. What’s the point of paying premium prices for a gated complex when the gates never even work? Overall, overpriced, poorly managed, and nowhere near the experience they promise. I would not recommend living here.

My son attends UTSA and moved into Madera this past Fall. His specific apartment is very nice. Everything furnished was in good condition. The small things we needed maintenance to fix on moving day, was fixed within a couple days or the same day. For the price and safety, I highly recommend this apartment complex to anyone whose child is looking for a safe apartment away from home. My son drives but catches the bus to campus. Madera provides complementary food and activities. I also love when I call (from day 1) the front desk answers on the first call or calls me back. That’s a major plus! I have no regrets. Thank you for all that you do for the kids! 🧡

August: When we first walked into our apartment it smelled musty, and we found out (thanks to a door in the laundry room being left unlocked) that the air filter was soaked with water. Our light fixture in our living room had a chunk missing, and when we were told they would fix it, all they did was rotate it so the broken side was facing a wall. Our dryer doesn't have a lint trap so it's dangerously full of lint from previous tenants also not having the trap. And despite being told we'd be given one, and that we made a maintenance request for one 3/4 days ago, we didn’t get a response of how long it would take or even that they were working getting us one. Trash does not get picked up every scheduled night from 6-8 pm like we were told, and we have spotted roaches in our apartment. The ice machine doesn't work and sometimes our fridge has a leak in the back. I think for paying 850 a month per person, the apartment should be in better condition. January: The area feels somewhat safe, but it’s right next to a busy and sometimes LOUD road, and there was a loud party recently that lasted around 3-4 hours. The gaps under the doors are pretty big and the walls are so thin. And there have been cockroaches permanently in our oven clock since we’ve moved in, and sometimes they skitter across our kitchen even though we keep it clean. The leak in the back of our fridge is constant when we were told it would fix itself. We did get the lint trap after 2/3 weeks, but we weren’t told they had ordered it, so we had to ask them again before we were notified. The dryer and washer also used to make our clothes stink so bad, but we cleaned them and wiped down the dryer 3 times and after 2 weeks our clothes started smelling normal. Definitely not worth 850, maybe 650.
