About this property
Nestled in the corner of Portland Green Student Village, Marshall Court is the smallest of all the 5 buildings in PGSV with 195 rooms. While some of the other buildings have a 24/7 energy, Marshall Court is the most relaxed of all the properties and offers students a perfect balance of social interaction and a calmer atmosphere to focus on their studies. Adding to this chilled vibe, Marshall Court is adjacent to Ouseburn Valley’s City Stadium Park, a beautiful green space with a running track and outdoor sports facilities. Whilst some student accommodations can feel enclosed, with just two blocks in a ‘L shape’ Marshall feels open and spacious; the private courtyard with real grass makes for a relaxing space.

my flatmates were bullies and just completely rude and disgusting , it took a huge toll on my mental health when living here and the accomodation team did nothing to help eventhough i voiced my concerns a few times, which if youve ever been in this situation, youd know its so tough to do. the fridge freezer was quite small for 5 people to share and i knew that people in bryson court had slightly bigger rooms + a full length mirror in the cupboard + a TV in their living room when we were paying the same amount of rent (i was in rosedale). i can admit the flatmates thing is really down to luck and can make or break your experience, but the staff could've been muchnmuch much more supportive, helped me move to another flat when i raised the issues, or provided alternatives but this was not the case. maintenance would also come in randomly which was quite frustrating. overall desk was a good size though and the room was fine, just your average student room.

Good for a student accommodation, but in comparison to others with similar prices seems outdated (appliances/kitchen mostly). Also my flat in Turner Court has one combined fridge freezer for 5 people! Struggle with that lol x Is a bit of a trek for Newcastle students, not at all for Northumbria students. Most staff are lovely and pleasant to interact with, freebies are sparser than it seems reading these reviews. Desk is GREAT size, as an architecture student it is amazing to be able to have that much space to work, and a lot of storage to keep it all. Circuit laundry is EXPENSIVE here in comparison to other accommodation at £3.80 for a wash and £2.30 for a dry. I recommend going to the laundromat across the street or your flatmates circuit laundry. Flatmates really make it or break it, have found friends for life here.

Quite area. The Room and spaces in between buildings are clean and tidy. Garden is nice. Check in was super easy and fast. But, bathroom shower sink is horrible, it's always clogged. and ofcourse there is no access to the kitchen. However, great price for the value.

The Block A lift has been broken since 7th December and it is now 15th February, with no proper resolution. This is beyond unacceptable. It is ridiculously inconvenient especially for those of us living on higher floors. It shows a complete lack of urgency or concern for residents. The general maintenance is equally poor. Reception has had a huge hole punched in the wall which has simply been left there for months without being fixed. The stairwells are dirty, poorly maintained, and the railing cover is constantly hanging off, it just makes the building feel neglected. The flats themselves are basic and small, with poor window insulation in the bedrooms and many of the windows being broken with no means to be fixed, meaning rooms get cold and draughty. This is especially frustrating given the extortionate rent being charged. Turner Court is out of the way of the city centre, so paying £185 per week for these conditions is completely unjustifiable. For that price, you would expect functioning facilities, clean communal areas, and prompt maintenance — these are not consistently provided here. As mentioned in other reviews I’ve seen, the reception workers of Bryson court are lovely, not their fault about the rest. However, overall, the accommodation is overpriced, poorly maintained, and not worth the money. This is everybody’s last choice for a reason.

The accommodation has nice facilities such as the gym and the social room and the bedrooms are a decent size. Some of the staff members do try to be helpful and there’s lots of freebies throughout the year at front reception. However my biggest grievance was they told me I’d be living with 3 other 18 year olds, a 19 year old and a 21 year old. When I moved in no one else was in first year and the oldest was a male in his 30s. Although he wasn’t an issue at all, I find it an extremely inappropriate move from Portland Green. Also not having anyone in the same year as me made my first year different from how I expected. When I tried to change flat they gave me no help on how to do this, even though I wouldn’t have chosen that flat if I knew I’d have no one my age there. To add to this, my bedroom door wouldn’t lock sporadically or would lock me out for around 6 months and nothing was done to fix it no matter how much I complained. Furthermore maintenance came to ‘fix our front door’ but made it so it only opens half way. To finish this off, towards the end of my tenancy I noticed my bedroom door was left unlocked and my light was left turned on when I came back from a night away, which isn’t how I left it. At the same time a number of tenants had been complaining that cash or other small valuables had been took from their rooms or that maintenance would randomly come in without warning.
