Barker House, newcastle-upon-tyne

Barker House has been my accommodation for the past two years, and it has been a fantastic place to stay. It is located in a calm and beautiful neighbourhood, with easy access to the university, shops, and other facilities. The environment is peaceful, comfortable, and ideal for students. I would highly recommend Barker House to anyone looking for good accommodation.

I lived here in my second year and decided to stay at home for my third year (reasons unrelated to Barker House). The deposit for the flat was £99 and my room was left spotless. There were issues in getting my deposit back (not at the fault of Barker House), but the new receptionist was of no help. I got in contact with the Tenancy Deposit Scheme team to get my deposit back, and they sent out a request to Barker House for them to repay the deposit back to me and they recieved no response. I even emailed the receptionist myself, asking him if he has any questions to let me or the Tenancy Deposit Scheme people know, because I need my deposit back as soon as possible. Again no reply, which means a further delay in my repayment of the deposit. This student accommodation is also very expensive for what it is, and if you plan on staying here, do not expect professionalism and helpfulness from reception or management.

I do not use my government name on Google reviews. Despite literally stating in response to an earlier review that they do not offer ‘free’ things only in exchange for good reviews, the receptionist is once again at it. A message was sent round that in exchange for specifically a five star review on the student crowd, the first ten students to do so would receive a £10 greggs voucher. I mean, how is this allowed?

EDIT: so if one person misuses an oven, the whole flat is expected to pay? And if not, how can you prove/tell who broke it? The new receptionist sends rude and unprofessional emails saying how if something breaks like oven or washing machine (despite these being years old), the whole flat will be paying to replace them despite the fact you cannot prove it was anyone who misused them or just because the machines are old - this is not even legal. Additionally, it is reasonable for students to come across ‘demanding’ (direct quote) when something essential is broken and is taking weeks to fix when we are all paying more than £6,000 in rent each

Robbie is the rudest person I’ve ever met I don’t believe a word he says in his emails and is constantly sending them which is becoming annoying. He is bossy, pushy and just rude the way he speaks to us almost like we are an inconvenience. The manager is lovely every time I have needed help she has been very helpful with anything I need. The building itself is great value for money and has a lovely common area just the pushy receptionist with his posters and emails that is putting me off rebooking here next year
