Summit SLO, san-luis-obispo-ca

My daughter moved into Summit SLO a few months ago and has already renewed her lease for next year. There is a lot to like about this complex with the new rooms, good amenities, safe mail delivery (this is a big one) nice gym, great location and secure rooms within each unit. She is very happy here. If I’m critical about anything, the costs are high, the parking system with car elevators is horrible, far too much gray color in each unit and the constant construction is very annoying. I understand they need to fix water leaks but the days of jackhammers is unacceptable. Still, we have heard horror stories about other complexes with big problems so we are thankful we found a good place. Once the construction is all wrapped up, I would probably give it five stars. I lived at the Summit SLO for the first year it was open, and the amenities were not ready for months after move in. Yes, they reimbursed our payment for the community fee, but it still felt like false advertising. First week of school, the WIFI in the building did not work and they suggested students to go to coffee shops and local establishments for their wifi, which is preposterous. If you drive a car, prepare to not find any parking after 4 pm, or walk a few blocks if you do not pay for the underground parking that constantly breaks down and causes issues for students. The elevator would also constantly be out of order which is difficult for students with disabilities or those carrying heavy things. I doubt it is ADA friendly with the spontaneous breaking down that occurs. This new building is in constant need of repairs as was seen in August with painters frantically patching cracked drywall and concrete. Any problems inside your apartment or on your floor were sometimes ignored until multiple follow ups. If your room is the one with the WIFI router be prepared for a strange odor to emit from it. When I tried to ask for a solution, the employees said they didn’t smell anything in that moment so nothing could be done. The AC unit in my apartment would not turn on due to problems most likely caused during installment. When it did turn on, you would have to forcefully press the monitor to have any air or heat. It took months for this to be repaired and wasn’t fixed until I was moved out. The outside night lights on my floor were never fixed despite speaking to the manager and writing something on the community page. The fourth floor had an outbreak of bugs which I have picture and video documentation. On multiple occasions, doors and windows would be broken and would not be repaired for days or weeks which would lead to glass shards and debris on the stairwells. Please see photos of windows that had been punch/cracked/and or damaged. Secondly, many of the employees are extremely rude and inept. I had a difficult time dealing with the financial manager, Troy and the leasing manager. I understand there are many people living in the building, but that does not mean that the issues occurring can “slip through the cracks”, as I was told verbatim. Troy is cold, rude, belittling and has a condescending attitude. A few employees were kind and understanding and many of the students employed by the Summit are sweet as well. The Pros: The gym is beautiful and a safe space to work out, I did enjoy spending time there. Once the study rooms were complete I spent time in the rooms with study groups and partners. I had a pleasant living experience in my personal apartment with my random roommates. The closeness to campus, grocery stores and services were helpful and I enjoyed being minutes away from whatever I needed. My overall my experience at the Summit was not a luxurious one as advertised and definitely not worth the price. You would think for 1.5k a month, they would be able to afford nicer furniture that doesn’t resemble a dorm apartment. Itchy couches that had no cushion, lopsided tables, metal chairs and stools are not what I picture when the word comfortable is mentioned.

I lived here for just one year and it overall wasn’t a bad place. Pros: - Great location - Fully furnished - Utilities included in rent - In-unit washer and dryer - Air conditioning - Study room - Gym - Outdoor grill + movie area Cons: - Bedroom had about the same amount of storage as my dorm room (maybe even less, the drawers were definitely shallower than the ones in my dorm) - Shared Bedroom/Living room wall was thin (bad for trying to go to bed earlier than my roommates who were still using the living room to watch TV, make calls, etc.) - Washer and dryer were very loud - Little to no lighting in the hallways after dark - The WiFi was kinda spotty (especially on the TV) + had some difficulty auto-connecting to my devices - Parking machine was a nightmare Honestly, the only reason I’m giving this place a 3 instead of a 4 is solely because of the parking. I paid way too much for a machine that was broken half the time and left me with a car that was locked up and needing to find a ride from someone else :/

An absolute rip off. I am paying almost $2000 a month for the most cheaply built apartment complex. The building isn’t even three years old yet, and things are constantly falling apart. My bathroom light is completely broken, my sink has leaked multiple times since moving in, and our front door hinge fell off entirely. None of these have been “user errors.” You can tell just by walking around the halls that it is terribly built: the walls/doors are SO thin, and if you take a close look at any part of the building you can tell it was made with no effort. God forbid there’s some weather: the power AND wifi will go out, the building will flood, and the parking elevators will shut down. The rooms are completely different sizes, even though rent is the same for everyone, and the chances of your window “opening up” to a dark walkway is relatively high. I also had 3x more storage in my dorm room than my room here, the drawers are half the size they appear to be. The parking is a DISASTER as well. I was supposed to go to a football game (which I spent good money on for tickets), but my car was locked in the car elevator system they have set up, so I missed out on the 49ers game! This is just one instance of having my car stuck too. It’s happened 6 times and I am only in the winter quarter. The people who work in the leasing office are always gossiping about residents, which is extremely unprofessional. The location is good, and the amenities are nice, which is all they advertise. If I am paying a $90 community fee on top of my rent, I should be seeing real benefits rather than an occasional LaCroix left in the community mini fridge. I do not recommend living here, hopefully you can find something actually worth the money! Edit: also the wifi is AWFUL. If the wifi is out, you're lucky if you get one bar of service. This is obviously very stressful when it comes to turning in assignments on time, or just studying at all. Coincidentally, my wifi is out right now!! We'll see if my review posts.

As other people mentioned the amenities are great as well as the location being so close to poly and food options. There has been an ongoing problem with the front door not opening even with a key fob, the first time I contacted summit about this they said they would look into it… it has been several weeks and you still cannot open the front door with the fob I do not know a single resident who can, I contacted summit a second time about it and didn’t hear back… There was a problem with people leaving lots of garbage in the halls instead of using the shoots but that has been resolved as of now. A lot of things within the apartment are built not to last but management will come fix it if you ask. Last year I would get woken up to repair men at my door in the morning asking to come into my room to check my window, there was no warning that they would be there so as a girl alone in her apartment I was scared to let them in because summit did not give any heads up so I didn’t even know if they were with summit or not. This year they have been better at announcing when repair men will be by.
