Riverknoll Apartments, rochester-ny

The most affordable but also the most basic on-campus housing RIT offers. These apartments usually house are quite old and wasn't built to be permanent from what I've heard and they definitely show signs of wear and tear. The apartments room one to four students and the layout for each unit is different depending on the number of rooms and occupants. They usually have a small kitchen with a stove, oven, refrigerator and countertops. You'll need to get your own microwave, cooking utensils, furniture and other necessities while following the apartment regulations such as no extension cords. They have heating which is great for Rochester's cold winters but no air conditioning so I don't recommend staying for the summer. You can ask for AC to be installed in your room but it'll need to be done by the maintaince department and it'll cost extra for both the installation and monthly fees. An alternative would be to purchase a fan, which a lot of the students here do.

I know this place has a bad reputation with students, but my kid's apartment has been fantastic. No, they're not new, and they haven't been "new" for a long time. But the location and value for the money can not be beat!

Many people will try to tell you that Riverknoll is a slum. They are right. But most riverknolls also have a yard; some have grills, and others have working hoses. It is true that RIT doesn't supply internet (instead we get a cable box. Wooo), but being 5 minutes from campus, you can live pretty comfortably without it. Though Riverknoll is getting very expensive, so is everything at RIT: It still holds the best comparative value.

Riverknoll is ultra-budget college housing at its finest! Feels like it hasn't been touched since the 70s. Paper thin walls so your roomies know all your dirty little secrets, too.

For it's price it's great. I'm splitting a room with someone and I still have space in my room. Things break every once in a while, but maintenance can always fix it.
