The Current Apartments, pomona-ca

Be prepared to sit down and read this review because I will be brutally honest. First of all, the 5 star reviews are a hoax for the residents who didn't experience what the past residents went through. You have no idea why majority of the previous residents were quick to leave as soon as their lease were about to end. Second, I'm pretty sure the current tries to save face and their reputation when it comes to reviews in general. Anyone that has the slightest interest into signing a lease to live here, be aware you'll experience a lack of professionalism within the staff, issues throughout your apartment/utilities, and more inconveniences. Honestly, if you're student thinking that this will be a perfect place for you to live because it's near campus, you're better off finding a room on roomies half the price. Because the price & the frustrations that I was occurring was NOT worth it, especially the rent I was paying for. As a college student that was actually paying my rent and everything else, this place was literally trash disguise in glitter. I felt horrible for the maintenance crew every morning, because they had to pick up every trash that was left on the ground.BTW, this was also not occurring outside, it was within the hallways, a couple times in the study rooms, and even the parking lot. How do people not pick up after themselves? The solution that staff came to a conclusion with was "express trashcans". Okay, poor solution to an internal problem that was still occurring, which residents were still littering. How infuriating, how embarrassing. Also, to add that people ding dong ditching late at night, loud conversations occurring during midnight in the side parking lot. I can't tell you HOW many times I had to tell other residents to SHUT up because they had no self-awareness that other people we're living there as well, and had to get sleep. Also, the employees as well. Every time I encountered an issue in regards to repairs, or other concerns I would get different information from each person.Talk about frustrating overall. Don't even get me started with a trash room, my god. The other person who left a review about the trash room is dead on, still baffles me till this day. The current preaches about being community based and "resident appreciation", yet can't comprehend the basics of resolving issues, and still find reasoning to rip off residents left to right. On top of that, I was not the only person that was experiencing issues within my unit. My other roommates as well, although I was semi cool/cool with a few had expressed the same concerns as well. To PARENTS, please please please do your research before signing to be your child's guarantor. And to college students please know what you getting into, if you do decide to sign a lease with them. For others, AVOID this place, save your money, and look into other places. To the staff of the current that's going to write a generic response. Starting with: "Thank you for your feed back or we're sorry your expectations with the current didn't met our expectations", Save it. An apology without change is not an apology. At the end of the day MY REVIEW, is to bring awareness not bring hatred.

Lived here for a year while going to Cal Poly. Unfortunately the cons far outweighed the pros for me here, and I'm excited to move out... PROS: -New construction -Nice appliances, spacious kitchen, dishwasher and big kitchen sink -In-unit laundry -Gym (which does get busy at times) and outdoor courtyards with barbecues & pool -Always hosting social events, pretty much everyone here goes to Cal Poly -Good internet included -One 24/7 security guard patrolling -Shuttle stop that takes you straight to campus CONS: -A bunch of "inspections" throughout the lease term where people randomly come in your room, and/or the insanely loud fire alarm randomly going off with no warning. One particular time on 6/10/26 they had the fire alarm going for 2 STRAIGHT HOURS beginning at 8 am, with no warning that it would be going that long or what time it would be happening specifically. How is this allowed??? People here have dogs and cats. I just read in a separate review that an epileptic dog died during one of these tests last year. It almost feels like we are part of some kind of social experiment. If you're going to do these inspections and tests, at least give us a SPECIFIC TIME and DATE. -I am unfortunate enough to have a unit facing the freeway, which is right outside my window (~50 feet away). It's the busy 10/57/71 interchange, with semi trucks rolling by 24/7. -Parking situation sucks and costs an extra $75/mo. You park in a parking lot across the street from the complex. Its about a 5 minute walk from my door to my car & I walk fast. You have to walk through the big, always empty parking lot that's right outside your door because they don't own it and you will get towed if you park there. -Other than being close to campus, it's a pretty inconvenient location. I usually ended up driving to San Dimas to get decent groceries, or to go to any general store like Target, which is like a 15 minute drive one-way, sometimes longer depending on traffic. Add that to the terrible parking situation, and something as simple as getting groceries turns into a chore. -Getting packages/deliveries is always annoying, searching through people's packages in the mail room to find yours. Sometimes packages fail to even get delivered. -In order to get into the building and your apartment, you use an electronic key fob. Cool, modern, yay, wow. But anytime the power goes out (which has happened several times throughout my lease), you are locked out of the building/apartment. The locks should have battery backups! -They use the cheapest, thinnest paint ever, I think it's just primer. Scratches/scuffs appear if you so much as look at it the wrong way. -The only good included furniture are the desk and dressers. The mattress and desk chair are awful.

I had an exceptional experience with The Current and was helped out by Allyson who kindly assisted me with my housing lease. She made sure all my questions were answered and ultimately made me feel comfortable with my decision! I definitely recommend living here after feeling such hospitality and observing the welcoming atmosphere!

Please read this review as it is honest, non-bias, and comes from an actual resident living at The Current, Pomona. The Current is for college students attending Cal Poly Pomona (CPP). It used to be owned by a separate private company until CPP bought it out. In my opinion, CPP ruined the living environment of The Current. If you look at majority of the reviews, they are not from residents, but rather friends, family, or others who only left a review after being toured around the apartment complex in order to receive merchandise, gift cards, etc. This is unprofessional and should not be allowed by the staff of The Current. The staff themselves are not the best and they are college students who have no experience in operating an apartment complex, let alone in hospitality. The only staff member with experience and maturity is the property manager. Each staff member provides a different answer to a question and they spread misinformation regarding rent payments, rent applications, and more that create inconveniences and confusion amongst the residents. The Current needs to absolutely hire people with actual experience and who are mature enough in this field for the time being. The units themselves are nice and are definitely better than on-campus housing. However, the entire complex itself is rushed when being built. There are gaps in floor boards, cracked/unfinished sealing, and much more. The parking situation is a disaster as there is not enough parking for both residents and visitors. The reason the lot by the Lareta building is not utilized is because Lareta refused to sell it to The Current. Also, having only 4 handicap spots with 2 of them being EV charging is unfair for people with disabilities and a possible ADA violation. The parking lot definitely should've been and could be a parking structure. The CPP shuttle does come by every 30 mins or so, which is nice but it does take too long at times and there is no shade coverage when waiting outside. Residents are given a key fob to access the complex and their units. When compared to schools such as, Pomona College, the student ID should be utilized instead to access the same areas. This allows for identification which increases security and also reduces costs by replacing the key fob with the student ID. This is how it works with on-campus housing anyways. Security is not the greatest either. For some reason, CPP does not utilized their community service officers and police officers for patrolling and responding to calls coming from The Current even though it belongs to CPP. Instead, The Current utilizes private security who can only report suspicious activities, nothing else. This increases costs and delays in response time by 911. There has been many instances of people who are not residents walking around the complex and even entering the building who posed a threat to the residents. The parking lot recently had security cameras installed which is great, however the lot could use speed bumps as a person in the past was hit by a car speeding through the lot. The rent cost is not affordable either even though CPP says it's, "affordable housing". The cost went from an average of $1.2k to ~$1.5k per month. Trash services were installed to combat the gross trash situation when the place first opened up. However, residents were not informed the services would be implemented and were automatically charged per month for these services. Residents should have the option to either opt-in or opt-out. And if you simply leave a 2-foot tall trash bin outside your door, you have to pay a fine. Unfortunately, the halls smell like trash now because of these services. It is clear that The Current and CPP are taking advantage of the students and unfortunately, that will not change because our voices are not heard and our reviews are overshadowed by those who have never lived here and were told to leave a good review for an incentive. This place is better than on-campus housing, but it can be improved upon in many areas and the students of CPP deserve so much better.

To get the pros out of the way, the apartment is close to the college and the apartments themselves are fine. However those qualities don’t save the review. Though if you’re willing to put up with the following you might like the place. The following cons ruin this building: Expensive!!! The apartments are nice, but not THAT nice. A 4 bed, 4 bath apartment will go for $1,570 (per month) next leasing period: purely for the apartment. That is a $96 increase from the current lease! This also doesn’t include parking by the way, which is located on an open lot, and expected to be an astounding $100 per month. Since the building is owned by CPP you’d think a pass for both the school and the building would exist, similar to The Village, but this isn't the case: you have to buy them separately. Good luck if your car gets broken into too, cause the security won’t do much about it. This isn’t mentioning all the different fines you’ll find along the way. The situation is to the point it feels predatory. Management, or the lack thereof. This apartment is pretty much run by students, and therefore communication is insanely difficult. Emails sent out about important topics like rent or licensing are never clear, requiring you to send clarifying emails. The staff never know when important dates are, so emails aren’t sent in a timely manner (for example, we were told when the relicensing window was 30 minutes before the window opened.) Also, I’m fairly sure the new website for rent payment was made by students and not professionals, so it's full of bugs. In conclusion, I have NEVER had or seen a non-student interaction in this building outside of human resources-esque situations. The Mail Room. Packages will be sent to the one mail room where they are sorted not by apartment but by name in a disorganized fashion. This makes locating your package difficult. I also had one instance where a package arrived at the apartment, never made it in the mail room, and couldn’t be recovered. Transportation. You can bike from the college to the apartment, but there's no lights on that road and it's frequented by strangers so stay safe. There's also no bike-lane part of the way and the roads get really busy as people get off of work and college. A shuttle does connect the apartments and the school but not in a timely manner.
