Whistler is just your average Iowa City apartment. The location is top tier, the units are nice and each room is furnished which is quite convenient. However, the rent is quite expensive so it is definitely a "get what you pay for" type of model... but honestly, not so much when you consider the negative aspects of this place. Doing laundry here is probably one of the worst experiences ever; it is arguably worse than doing laundry in the dorms. The washing machines are tiny and cost $3.00 to run, and they never even get all of your clothes wet. The dryers, which are much bigger, also cost $3.00 which makes no sense. There needs to be some sort of reevaluation on the cost of the washer. Additionally, as some other reviews mentioned, the elevator has broken down multiple times over the last year or so. This is quite annoying as someone who lives on the 4th floor. Whistler (JM Michael) tends to blame their elevator company whenever this happens. Here is a good idea: maybe just switch elevator companies? Clearly they are not doing a good job, so pointing the blame to them when YOU are the one using their service is quite illogical. If your a student who merely values location, I would look into this place. But other than that, I would probably suggest looking elsewhere.

My daughter has lived at Whistler for almost a year and has resigned her lease for next year. We have seen so many complaints with other management companies in Iowa City and have to say that Whistler (J. Michael Realty) has been very responsive. The gentleman in charge of maintenance (Mark) is super kind and on top of issues when they arise. Great location, close to campus, and safe!

My roommates and I have been tenants at Whistler for the past two years, and unfortunately, our experience has been consistently disappointing. While there are several issues worth noting, such as the extremely small laundry machines and the steep $3.00 fee per load for both washers and dryers, our primary concern lies with the repeated and prolonged failure of the building's elevator. Over the course of just 14 months, the elevator has broken down on four separate occasions, each time leaving us, as top-floor residents, without reliable access to our unit for weeks at a time. This is not only inconvenient but unacceptable for a residential building of this size and price point. The response time from the elevator maintenance company has been sluggish at best, compounding the issue further. Despite reaching out to management multiple times, we have received only generic responses expressing “understanding” and vague assurances that the matter is being addressed, yet there is little evidence of lasting improvement. The high cost of living here simply does not reflect the quality or reliability one would reasonably expect.

The management team is very kind, and maintenance always responds promptly to issues! I lived here for three years and really enjoyed it! It’s a great place to live while going to college as it’s walking distance to campus and downtown.

As a current resident who has been living here for only a month I can strongly say that it has been one of the worst decisions I have made. Especially the wash machine platform they have here. They charged 2.50$ per wash and 50% of the time it doesn’t even work. If you live here make sure you get a washer and dryer in unit because they will not give you a refund for there poor washer and dryer system.
