The Dex Apartments, bellingham-wa

I just recently moved out from the Dex apartments and I greatly enjoyed my time living there. The landlord is extremely flexible and accommodating to any needs or questions that may come throughout your living time frame. The apartments were clean, spacious, and great for hosting! I would definitely recommend these apartments if you are searching.

I lived in this apartment complex for two years. The apartments themselves are in great condition and the location can't be beat! If I were to rate just the apartment itself, it would get 5 stars. Great location (walking distance to downtown) and the apartments are new and in great condition. Everything else about living in these apartments is why I dropped the rating to two stars. The landlord claims that the parking spaces that you pay for (a hefty fee every month) are solely yours, and that if people park in your spot they will be towed. This is not true. She will only charge the person who is parked in your spot a $10 fee (that goes to her, not you) and tells you to park in another spot. If the person does not live at the Dex, she will not tow them unless they are in the spot for a consecutive 24 hours. This happened frequently as the location of the apartments are near to downtown. Similarly, the parking lot is not well kept and if any damage befalls your vehicle, she will claim that it was not her responsibility. There is free parking across the lot (Chestnut Professional Building), and I would recommend just parking there instead of paying for no privileges at the Dex. While living at the Dex, we did have appliances break down which took several months and exhausting coordination between DeWaard & Bode and us, before finally getting a replacement appliance. This may be more in fault with the chosen appliance company rather than the landlord, but the whole situation was unnecessarily complicated and could have been handled better. Not to mention that the landlord is in charge of choosing the appliance company to work with, which was a poor decision on her part. Finally, through everything, we eventually left the Dex, only to hear that the landlord was keeping all of our security deposits (a whopping total of $2400- $600 split between 4 people), for things that the landlord is responsible for (normal wear and tear, painting charges, etc.) She outwardly refused to produce any proof these charges existed and finally decided to rightfully return our deposits after weeks of back and forth emailing. Overall, this place was not worth how expensive the rent was or the hassle of dealing with the landlord. Look elsewhere!

I lived here for a year and never had any difficulties with the landlord or unit! We got our full security deposit returned after moving out.
