The Social Normal, normal-il

I recently went to The Social and had a great experience with the office staff. Everyone was super friendly and helpful during my tour. Lauren, Jon, Ainsley, and Emily were all great and made the process easy. Highly recommend!

⭐☆☆☆☆ Do not live here. I just moved out after two years and genuinely cannot recommend this place to anyone. The biggest issue by far is privacy. Their lease says they’ll give notice before entering your apartment. In my experience, that did not happen. Maintenance would just show up and let themselves in. I lost count of how many times I was home and suddenly there was a random man in my apartment. It got to the point where I never felt comfortable being there because I never knew when someone was going to walk through my front door. The maintenance workers would also take pictures while inside. It felt incredibly invasive and honestly creepy. Beyond that, this place is a money grab. They will charge you for absolutely everything they can. The front office is rarely helpful and communication is terrible until they want something from you. Package theft is common. The apartments look way better online than they do in person. Mine was dirty when I moved in, the floors were sticky, the heat never worked right, our door lock constantly had issues, maintenance requests took forever, and problems that were supposedly fixed would just come back. It constantly smells like weed and cigarettes. There is frequent police activity. I’ve personally watched people get arrested here. Despite being marketed toward students, there are plenty of non-students living there and some residents made the environment feel extremely uncomfortable. The pool is overcrowded, traffic getting to class is awful, the apartments are small, there is barely any storage, and there is basically no privacy because everyone’s windows face each other. The only reason I stayed for two years is because moving is expensive. I’m attaching screenshots of the notes I kept while living here because otherwise people would probably think I’m exaggerating. Every time something happened, I added it to the list. By the end of two years, the list was ridiculous. There are so many apartment options in Normal. Pick literally any other one. Moving out was the best part of living here.

Emily, Jon, Ainsley, and Lauren consistently do an outstanding job supporting prospective and current residents. They efficiently manage apartment showings while maintaining a welcoming and professional atmosphere for everyone they meet. In addition to their leasing responsibilities, they handle phone calls and emails promptly, ensuring questions and concerns are addressed in a timely manner I've spoke to them all on separate occasions when I contacted this location asking various questions about housing, amenities, location, etc.

I had an excellent stay, I stayed here 2025-2026 school year. The staff made me feel welcome and at home. Maintenance was quick and professional, had every request done fast. This is by far the best company to rent from. I’ve stayed at two of their locations. I have received my security deposit back in full both times. Their workers are super sweet and genuinely try to help. They also offer students snacks randomly and during finals. My only issue with them is the maintenance. They’re really good at fixing small issues but when our heater wasn’t working during the winter it took them forever to come “fix it” (this issue was never resolved). I had many cold days & nights (you could see clouds of breathe that’s how freezing it was). We submitted many request & it went weeks without any help. Our power kept shutting off from using space heaters. During the warmer days our AC also gave out and they kept “fixing it” only for it stop working the next day. I’m sure we needed a new furnace but they never did anything about it.
