I’ve really enjoyed living at Iglu Melbourne. The customer service is amazing – the staff are always friendly, helpful, and quick to assist whenever needed. A special mention to security guards Sam and Saed, who are always welcoming, professional, and happy to help. They really make the building feel safe and create a great atmosphere for students. Overall, it’s been a great place to live and study, and I’d definitely recommend it to other students.

Had a great time during my stay in Iglu! And as an international student I felt safe and welcome in the new environment, I also met some good friends that I didn’t expect such as the security guards from NSP SECURITY Sammy and Said who are always so nice and welcoming to me and my friends! Although my journey in Aus is ending I’ll always remember and be thankful for the people I met

Best student accommodation! I stayed in a studio and had a great experience. The location is excellent — very close to a supermarket, Queen Victoria Market, and tram stops. You can even walk to Melbourne Central, which has everything you need. There are plenty of facilities available, and it’s a great place to invite friends over or meet new people through the many activities organized here. They even offer free breakfast (usually toast, cereal, and coffee), which I haven’t seen at other student accommodations. The staff are friendly and helpful — if you ever run into any issues, they’ll sort them out as quickly as possible. I highly recommend this place to anyone new to Melbourne. It’s safe, convenient, and really welcoming. The only downside is that the rent is quite high, but if it’s within your budget, I’d say go for it!

I lived at IGLU for 12 months, and while the front desk staff were friendly and often sympathetic, management as a whole had no real urgency or commitment to ensuring a clean and safe living environment. What I experienced was beyond just bad housemates—it was outright unsanitary and, frankly, a health hazard. Despite filing complaints almost every week, nothing ever changed, and I spent my final months in absolute torment. My housemate had no concept of hygiene. He left half-eaten cup noodles, uncovered food, and rotting leftovers all over the common area. He never cleaned up after himself—spilled food mixed with his saliva was left on the countertops, the floors, and the sofa. His cooking habits were even worse; he would use pots and leave them unwashed on the stove, allowing the oils and food residue to harden and become rancid over time. He would leave open bowls of curry water sitting in cabinets for months, completely forgotten. The smell of decay became permanent, sinking into the furniture and making the entire living area unbearable. The worst part was the infestation. The kitchen sink became lined with maggots, attracted by the piles of unwashed dishes and utensils that would sit for a week—or longer—until he needed them again. I physically couldn’t use the kitchen without wanting to gag. Flies were constantly buzzing around, laying eggs on the grime-covered dishes. The walls near the sink were crawling with larvae. I tried everything—buying cleaning supplies, setting up a WhatsApp group to remind everyone to clean, even confronting him directly—but nothing worked. He refused to change, and every time I raised the issue, he would get defensive and aggressive. The staff at the front desk were understanding, and every time they followed me into the common area to check, they visibly grimaced in disgust. They agreed it was unacceptable. And yet, beyond an occasional email or warning, management did nothing substantial to fix it. The only ‘penalty’ issued was a $50 fine split between two people—an amount so insignificant that it did nothing to deter him. It became clear to me that management had no real interest in enforcing rules or ensuring tenants had a livable environment. I suspect they didn’t want to evict the messy tenants because they were returning next term, whereas I was moving out. But that decision came at the cost of my quality of life and mental health. Beyond the filth, he had no respect for others. He would play FIFA and yell until 4 AM in the common area, even after multiple complaints. If asked to quiet down, he’d become hostile and make excuses. For six months, I was forced to eat all my meals in my room because the common space was unusable. I had nowhere to relax after work or uni because every surface was sticky, covered in trash, or infested with flies. I was paying rent for access to a shared living space that I could never use. My mental health deteriorated as I felt trapped in my own room, unable to enjoy even the most basic aspects of communal living. After months of complaining, the manager finally came to inspect the mess in person. I thought this would be the turning point—finally, some action. Instead, he looked around, told us, “Good job, guys. Now collect more evidence so we have proof,” and left. This was despite the fact that I had already been sending photographic evidence of the filth every other week. The pictures clearly showed the same dirty bowls that matched the ones in my housemate’s allocated cabinet. His receipts and name were on the fast-food bags he left around the apartment. The proof had been there for months, but they just didn’t care enough to act. For the premium price of IGLU, I expected at least a baseline standard of cleanliness and tenant respect. Instead, I lived in squalor while management turned a blind eye. If you’re considering living here, know that if you have a disgusting or inconsiderate housemate, you’ll be on your own—no matter how many complaints you file. Save yourself the stress and look elsewhere.

The best student accommodation I ever stayed at. The staff and RLs are so nice and genuine that they can feel like good friends rather than just people doing their jobs. They’re always so approachable, and genuine and the environment is so welcoming, that it helps a lot especially as an international student living away from home, it’s a place that really feels like a second home.
